Should You Wash Your Hair Before a Salon Appointment?
It is one of the most common questions we hear at Sobo Hair Boutique. Should you wash your hair before coming to the salon? The answer depends on the service you are booked in for.
Whether you are coming to us for a cut, colour or blow-dry, we want you to feel completely confident and prepared for your visit. So, our stylists are here to explain when it is best to arrive with freshly washed hair and when it is better to leave it to us.
If you are looking for expert advice on all things Edinburgh hair, this is the place to start.
Do I Need to Wash My Hair Before a Haircut?
No need at all. If you are booked in for a cut and blow-dry, there is no requirement to wash your hair beforehand. Your stylist will start with a thorough cleanse and condition using salon-quality products that suit your hair type. Whether you have a bit of dry shampoo in your roots or product from the day before, we will take care of it.
Our salon experience is designed to be as relaxing as it is transformative, so let us handle it from the very beginning.
Should I Wash My Hair Before a Colour Appointment?
It depends on the type of hair colour service. Here is a breakdown.
For highlights, balayage or bleach services, we recommend not washing your hair on the day of your appointment. A small amount of natural oil on the scalp acts as a gentle protective barrier. This can help prevent sensitivity during the lightening process.
If you are coming in for an all-over tint or toner, you do not need squeaky clean hair, but it should be free of heavy build-up. If you have been using dry shampoo, mousse or hairspray regularly, we suggest washing your hair the night before.
Unsure which category your colour appointment falls under? Feel free to give us a call. Our stylists are always happy to advise.
What About Blow-Drys or Hair-Up Styling?
For these services, freshly washed hair is ideal. If you are booked in for a blow-dry, we will shampoo your hair using professional Aveda or Kérastase products, giving us the perfect base to create volume, bounce and smoothness.
For hair-up appointments, clean hair gives us more flexibility to style and shape without unwanted residue or oil. If you are coming in for dry styling only, such as waves or curls on dry hair, please arrive with clean and dry hair, ideally washed within the last 24 hours.
I Washed My Hair Yesterday – Is That Okay?
Yes. As long as your hair is not heavy with product build-up, we can still carry out your service as planned. Your stylist will assess your hair at the start of the appointment and talk you through any adjustments needed.
You never need to worry about doing anything perfectly before visiting Sobo. We are here to guide you.
